Exclusion from the UK

I have been given a decision revoking my citizenship, cancelling my indefinite leave to remain, or excluding me from the UK. What do I do?

Appeals against such decisions, where the SSHD has ‘certified’ that the decision is based on material that should not be made public, can be brought under Section 2 of the SIAC Act 1997.

A person who wishes to appeal such a decision must give notice of appeal within a certain timeframe, depending on their circumstances when they are ‘served’ with the decision. The time limits are as follows:

  • 5 days – if the appellant is detained in the UK;
  • 10 days – if the appellant is in the UK (non-detained);
  • 28 days – where the appellant is outside of the UK.
