Duncan Lewis Business Immigration Solicitors – Musicians –UK Visa Applications

Duncan Lewis business immigration solicitors can advise on Tier 2 visas and the international recruitment of musicians coming to the UK to take up appointments in orchestras, as solo or group performers – or as teachers in UK schools and educational institutions.

Musicians are eligible to work in the UK under the regulations covering skills shortages in occupations qualified to NQF Level 6.

Duncan Lewis business immigration lawyers frequently advise companies and individuals on international recruitment and Tier 2 visa applications – as well as advising on recruiting recent overseas music graduates who have qualified in the UK and wish to take up an appointment in an orchestra, as a performer or as a teacher in the UK after graduating.

Any Tier 2 applicants can be sponsored for jobs in certain occupations – and the government has drawn up a list of eligible occupations for musicians wishing to apply for a Tier 2 visa to take up a position in the UK.

UK Visas & Immigration regulations set out in the Codes of Practice for Skilled Workers such as musicians.

Under the regulations, the sort of musician appointments that would be eligible for a Tier 2 visa application include:

  • Composer
  • Musician
  • Organist
  • Pianist
  • Songwriter
  • Violinist.

UK Visas & Immigration rules also set out the types of duties a musician might undertake to qualify for a Tier 2 visa, including:

  • conceives and writes original music
  • tunes instrument and studies and rehearses score
  • plays instrument as a soloist or as a member of a group or orchestra
  • scores music for different combinations of voices and instruments to produce desired effect
  • auditions and selects performers and rehearses and conducts them in the performance of the composition.

The current minimum salary range for a musician applying for a Tier 2 UK visa would be £20,500 for both an experienced member of staff and a new entrant – or £16,700 for new entrants who entered Tier 2 under the Rules in place before 6 April 2011 and are not subject to the experienced worker rate.
