Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service Duncan Lewis
Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service (HLPAS)
The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) funds the Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service (HLPAS) throughout England and Wales to provide:
- Early Legal Advice to anyone at risk of possession proceedings and loss of their home. We can provide advice in relation to Housing, Debt and Welfare Benefits issues
- In Court Duty on the day emergency advice and advocacy to anyone facing eviction through possession proceedings
HLPAS enables anyone at risk of losing their home or facing eviction through possession proceedings to get free legal advice, and representation in court, regardless of their financial circumstances.
HLPAS Early Legal Advice
Duncan Lewis Solicitors can provide you with free legal advice and assistance from the moment you receive written notice that someone is seeking the possession of your home. This might be an email from your landlord or a letter from a creditor. Your financial situation will not affect your right to access this support and you will not need to pay. We can provide advise and assistance in person or remotely.
We will work with you to identify what may be causing someone to seek possession of your home and recommend potential solutions. For example, they may be able to provide legal advice on matters such as:
- illegal eviction
- disrepair and other problems with housing conditions
- rent arrears
- mortgage arrears
- welfare benefits payments
- debt
At Duncan Lewis solicitors, we have a team of 70 advisors to provide you with free legal advice and assistance. Please note that since demand for HLPAS is extremely high due to the economic climate, we may not be able to take on all matters.

HLPAS In Court Duty
In the event you are unable to resolve matters and you are asked to attend a court hearing, we can also provide free legal advice and representation at the court. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your hearing and speak to the court usher and they will direct you to one of our advisers at court.
