A 34-year-old man from Wembley in northwest London has been prosecuted after illegally dumping two black bags full of refuse on the public highway.
Sanket Mevada of Bassingham Road in Wembley was found guilty of littering on Norton Road. At Willesden Magistrates’ Court, Mevada was ordered to pay a fine of £1,052.
After the hearing, Brent Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, Eleanor Southwood, said:
“It is completely unacceptable to dump household rubbish on the streets –
the council provides a number of bins for residents to dispose of their rubbish correctly. It is damaging for the appearance of the local area and is a public health issue.
“Littering is a problem across London and Brent is not immune, but we will continue to work with residents to identify offenders and will pursue all avenues to hold them to account – including our dedicated waste enforcement team, who will investigate and prosecute offenders.
“If you see anyone illegally dumping rubbish in the streets, please don’t hesitate to report these criminals by using the Cleaner Brent app or by emailing waste.enforcement@brent.gov.uk,” she added.
