Unregistered gas fitter handed suspended prison sentence (27 August 2015)

A chef who carried out gas fitting work using a fake Gas Safe registration has been given a suspended sentence at Norwich Crown Court.
James Gotts was working as a chef at a public house when he carried out gas work at five premises in the Norwich area between July 2013 and January 2014.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that Gott’s work at three of the premises was considered “at risk” or “immediately dangerous” by Gas Safe Register.
At Norwich Crown Court, James Gotts, 39, of Surlingham Road, Bramerton in Norfolk pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974
He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for the offence – and received a further sentence of six months in prison after pleading guilty to an offence under Regulation 3(3) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.
Both jail terms were suspended for 18 months.
Gott was also ordered to carry out 180 hours of community service and was ordered to pay costs of £1,092.
