A Harlesden businessman whose business kept neighbours awake at night has been prosecuted for noise nuisance.

Brent Council took action against Mohammed Abdi for noise nuisance in the early hours at his business on the High Street in Harlesden, northwest London.

After first securing a Noise Abatement Notice in September 2015, council officers were called back to the scene by neighbours just weeks later.

Witnessing a clear breach of the Order, the council took Mr Abdi to court.

On Tuesday, 9th February 2016, the court ordered Abdi to pay a total of £1,210 in fines and costs.

After the hearing, Brent's Council’s Cabinet Member for stronger communities, Councillor James Denselow, said:

“People in residential blocks have a right to a good night's sleep, so when a businessman is such a nuisance to his neighbours, he'd better expect us to come down on him hard.

“Yesterday, the courts gave a clear sign that they are going to make such noisy businesses pay for their anti-social behaviour.”
