The Environment Agency has prosecuted a Gateshead man for failing to produce his authority to transport controlled waste.
Nathan Stokoe of Pontop View, Highfield in Rowlands Gill was found guilty by Gateshead Magistrates’ Court following an investigation lasting most of 2016.
Gateshead Magistrates’ Court fined Stokoe £1,000 for failing to produce his authority to transport controlled waste.
Licenses are issued to authorised waste carriers by the Environment Agency, which says there is a growing trend of unauthorised waste carriers advertising their services on selling and social media sites.
The agency warns that anyone who wants to hire someone to take away waste has a legal duty a make sure they only transfer over their waste to an authorised person.
Those who transfer waste to an unauthorised collector could be prosecuted and fined – often unauthorised waste carriers will remove waste and not dispose of it correctly, leading to incidents of fly tipping.
