Italian Parents Seek Legal Help to Evict Adult Son (22 September 2011)

A court in Venice may be asked to provide an Italian couple with a protection order against their 41-year-old son. The Venetian parents claim that although their son is in employment, he has refused to leave home and demands that his parents wash his clothes and prepare his meals. The pair have sought the advice of lawyers.
Lawyer Andrea Camp claimed that the parents had sent their son a letter, advising him to leave the family home in six days. He was warned that if he failed to do so, he would face legal action. If he refuses, lawyers are likely to ask the court to issue the parents a protection order against their son. The father claimed that he could not cope with his son’s demands any longer, stating that his son required his clothes to be washed and ironed and also for his daily meals to be prepared. He said that the son had “no intention of leaving” and that the pair could not cope any longer.
The father said that his wife had been suffering from stress and required hospitalisation. Some reports claim that the son had also developed aggressive tendencies. The pair’s lawyers claim that “hundreds of Italian families” experience similar problems with getting their adult children to leave the family home.
