ASBO for nuisance caller (4 February 2014)

A woman from Cambridgeshire has been given an Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) after bombarding police with a series of angry calls over a five-year period.
Fifty- year old Marlena Al Bandak targeted Cambridgeshire police on an almost daily basis from 2008. The court heard that she averaged 20 minutes a phone call. All of them were fictitious issues regarding things such as complaints about neighbour disputes and unwanted objects in her garden.
In total, Al Bandak made 321 calls to police, 90 calls to Roddons Housing Association and a further 27 calls to Fenland District Council. Kings Lynn Magistrates were told that numerous failed attempts were made to curtail Al Bandak's phoning spree because she always refused to speak to any officers attending her home.
Al Bandak has now been handed an ASBO, which prevents her calling the police except in the case of an emergency. It will also place a limit on the amount of emails she can send to both the local council and housing associations regarding any complaints she may have.
Inspector Robin Sissons added: “This woman effectively wasted a large amount of police time through her continued phone calls to the police and other agencies. That took up valuable time and resources that could have been more effectively used elsewhere.”
