I am a Solicitor and Supervisor specialising in Child Care Law. I represent parents and children in care proceedings brought by the local authority. My work also includes representation in relation to Public Law Outline/pre-proceedings matters and Court proceedings including applications for Care and Supervision Orders; Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Orders; Secure Accommodation Orders; Emergency Protection Orders; and Special Guardianship Orders. I have gained a Level 2 qualification in Understanding Autism, and I am part of a specialist
Autism and ADHD team within Duncan Lewis where I work to protect the rights of my neurodivergent clients (parents and children) and ensure that they are represented properly and fairly within court proceedings. In addition, I also have experience in representing parents in private children matters such as disputes in relation to contact and residence and injunctions.
I am regularly instructed by parents facing allegations of neglect, domestic violence, substance misuse and physical chastisement. I have a particular interest in assisting, advising and representing parents who are accused of inflicting serious non-accidental injuries on their children and in assisting neurodivergent parents and children.
I have extensive experience in helping and representing both parents and children with additional and complex needs, such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and/or ADHD, complex mental health issues and those that present with gender dysphoria. In addition, I have expertise advising and representing vulnerable parents and children, including those with mental health issues, learning difficulties and disabilities, physical limitations, addiction and victims of emotional or physical domestic abuse. I am also experienced in representing parents in prison, to ensure their voices are heard within proceedings relating to their children.
As an experienced advocate, I undertake advocacy for my clients in order to afford them continuity of representation and I regularly represent clients before magistrates, district judges and circuit judges. I am a Law Society Children Law accredited solicitor, which is a recognised quality standard for practitioners and means I have demonstrated expertise and specialist knowledge in all areas of children law.
I have advised and represented high profile clients, including a mother in prison seeking to oppose an adoption order in relation to her son. I have represented clients overseas. I have also assisted clients with issues involving multiple jurisdictions, including securing the permanent removal of a child from the jurisdiction of England and Wales.
In addition to my casework, I am a co-founding member of Family Law Advice for the Neurodivergent Community (FLANC), the aim of which is to increase awareness and understanding of neurodivergence, campaign for compulsory training, best practice guidance and systemic change within the family justice system. I also take on pro-bono work to assist those in need, including working with the Duncan Lewis pro-bono clinic for Women's Aid and being part of the Ismaili National Legal Council.
