A four-year-old boy has had his ear sewn back on after he was attacked by a Japanese Akita dog while visiting family in Liverpool.

The Daily Mail reports that David House from Kent was dangling food in front of the dog when it attacked him. The Akita bit his head, with its teeth penetrating three layers of skin to reach the boy’s skull.

He was taken to Alder Hey Hospital where he spent two days undergoing treatment. He is due to see a plastic surgeon to see if further treatment is needed for the ear that was stitched back on. David will be left with scars on the top of his head, his father said.

The Japanese Akita which attacked him has not been destroyed but police in Liverpool have warned the owner not to leave it alone with children again.

The dog is believed to have jumped up at David after he had dangled food in front of it – David’s father said he son was used to dogs and not timid in front of them as they have two dogs at home.

However, he said that the attack on his son by the dog should act as a warning to other pet owners:

“We want to warn people to beware of having dogs around children when they are not used to them,” said Mr House.
