Duncan Lewis acquires White Ryland solicitors!



Duncan Lewis has completed its first acquisition. Up until now the growth of Duncan Lewis has been organic – growing in line with demand in the areas in which its offices have been situated and adding new offices where it seemed that these would help the company expand its services. For the first time Duncan Lewis has been proactive in acquiring a business which was delivering social welfare legal services – but which had started to struggle in the face of the many changes in the Legal Aid landscape.



White Ryland solicitors was a respected legal aid firm based in Shepherds Bush, which had a large Immigration franchise, as well as conducting family and housing work. Duncan Lewis have acquired the office premises, opposite Goldhawk Road tube station, and have taken on the majority of the White Ryland staff with a view to re-invigorating the practice and to add a West London location to the DL office base.



This marks a change in strategy for Duncan Lewis. It wishes to encourage other strong legal aid providers to continue providing social welfare services, and has offered to share the blueprint for its successful business model with those who are keen to maintain their ability to provide legal aid services profitably. However, Duncan Lewis now intends to be proactive in being acquisitive in situations where the failure of a firm which has previously supplied social welfare services leaves the legal needs of some of the most vulnerable people in society unmet.



As from 1 September 2008 Duncan Lewis will be trading from the offices at 54 Goldhawk Road, Shepherds Bush, W12 8HA – right next to Goldhawk Road tube station. It has retained the majority of the White Ryland staff and intends to continue to provide Immigration, Housing and Family services with a view to expanding the provision of social welfare services in the future.
