I am a Director in Duncan Lewis' Family and Child Care Department, having joined the firm in September 2014. I specialise in Child Protection work and have an extensive knowledge of all Family and Child Care matters.
I qualified as a solicitor in 2005 and I am a member of the Association of Lawyers for Children (ALC), Resolution, Nagalro and Baspcan (British Association for the Study and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect). In 2010 I became a Member of the Law Society Accredited Children Panel which means I have the required level of competence and specialist knowledge, as defined by the Law Society in all areas of children law and the representation of children. As a result, I have been instructed by Guardians (CAFCASS) to represent them and their children in a care case.
I have been involved in some very complex care proceedings, which have included matters involving non-accidental injury, high profile ‘honour killings’, somatic symptom disorder, fictitious illness, rare genetic conditions, death of a child mid-proceedings, parents with a mental health condition lacking litigation capacity who have then had to be appointed an official solicitor to represent them within care proceedings, along with the most common factors that normally cause the Local Authority to issue proceedings such as sexual abuse, neglect, drug and alcohol misuse, emotional harm and physical harm.
In May 2015, Duncan Lewis opened its Croydon office and I was immediately appointed to the Croydon Branch thanks to my knowledge of the area and my relationships with the local court and the professionals there. I had worked for another company in Croydon for nine years prior to joining Duncan Lewis and therefore I know Croydon exceptionally well. I was heavily involved in the establishment of the Family Justice Centre in Croydon.
I represent children of all ages and I like going out and meeting with the children directly in order to ascertain their wishes and feelings. Children have a voice and I believe they should be heard. It is important that the court knows what the child has to say and I often arrange for the child or children to go and see the judge themselves so that they can tell the judge exactly how they feel. It has been interesting to see how judges respond to the children and it is nice to see the judges in a different capacity. Children are relaxed and shown around the court room and the whole process is explained to them as it is important they hear for themselves what the court looks at when deciding their future.
I have significant experience and knowledge of domestic violence cases and I am passionate about helping the most vulnerable to escape their violent perpetrators. I have represented victims of domestic violence throughout my career and I now ensure that all my team members are trained to be able to recognise domestic abuse.
I am passionate about undertaking my own advocacy and I often appear before District, Circuit, High Court Judges and Magistrates. I have the skill, knowledge and expertise to secure emergency orders and to represent a party in such emergency applications.
I speak Greek fluently.
