OAP receives settlement from Starbucks after fall (20 January 2014)

A pensioner that suffered a personal injury after slipping and falling on a greasy floor at a Starbucks in Walsall has been awarded a four-figure settlement.
Seventy-one-year-old Rosemarie Duggan tore her hamstring during the incident at the chain's Bescot Retail Park outlet in the West Midlands in 2012. She was subsequently taken to hospital where she was given strong analgesia, crutches and anti-inflammatory cream following a routine X-ray.
Starbucks has now fully accepted liability for the accident that occurred after another customer had already reported the presence of an oily substance. Mrs Duggan, who was paid an undisclosed sum by the coffeehouse giant last week, suffered severe pain for over a month and struggled to walk for the next year following the incident.

In this case, the spillage on the floor where Mrs Duggan fell had been reported to staff but they failed to act on this.”
