Cannabis factory discovered at address in Writtle (8 September 2014)

A man found growing cannabis plants in the loft of his Chelmsford home has been bailed by local magistrates until later in September.
The Essex Chronicle reports that Brian Neal, 31, of Hunts Drive, Writtle in Chelmsford, Essex, was charged with the production of drugs, after officers from the Chelmsford Neighbourhood Police Team executed a drugs warrant at the address on Wednesday (03/09/14).
The police officers searching the property accessed the loft of the house, where they found 30 cannabis plants. The officers also uncovered equipment used for hydroponic cultivation of plants at the address.
Neal was arrested and charged with productions of Class B drugs.
He will return to Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court for a further hearing on 18 September.
Under the New Labour government, cannabis was classified from a Class B drug to Class C. However, it was later reclassified as Class B, despite calls from some patients with chronic conditions and diseases such a cancer for cannabis to be made available legally for the purposes of pain relief in patients for whom medicinal painkillers are not effective.
