A 21-year-old security guard with Asda supermarket has spoken out about how a “crazed” woman attacked him while he was waiting in a taxi queue after a night out in Poole, Dorset.

The woman lunged at Dean Roche and four other men in the queue, but hit Mr Roche on the cheek, fracturing his cheekbone in four places.

During three-and-a-half hours of surgery, Mr Roche needed four plates inserted into his cheek to repair the fractured bones and reconstruct his face. He also sustained severe bruising around one eye. He will be on sick leave from work for six weeks while he recovers from his injuries.

He told the Daily Mail that he was standing in the taxi queue “looking the other way” when the woman ? described as white with dark hair and wearing a leopard print top ? lunged at him as she went on what appeared to be a “rampage”.

“I had been out for the night and was waiting for a taxi when a woman came out of nowhere and hit me on the side of my head with a stiletto,” said Mr Roche.

“It was totally unprovoked. I didn't even see her coming, she came at me from the side.

“I have no idea who the woman was, I've never seen her before,” he added. “She was on a rampage, hitting other people with her stiletto.”

The attack on Mr Roche in Poole took place in the early hours of 26 April and local police are asking witnesses to the assault to come forward with any information they may have.

Detective Constable Jonathan Sainsbury of Dorset Police said:

“There were a number of people around at the time who may have witnessed the incident ? I urge them to come forward as soon as possible.”

The attack on Mr Roche coincides with recently released figures which suggest a marked fall in the number of violent crimes committed as a result of alcohol use and the night-time economy in city centres across the UK.

Some commentators have suggested that an increase in the price of alcohol and the economic downturn has led to a reduction in alcohol-related violent crime.

Mr Roche was, however, saved from losing an eye because one of his friends grabbed him and turned him away from the woman’s stiletto shoe, as he thought he had been hit in the eye already.

Mr Roche said:

“I was in agony, I've never felt pain like it. My mate grabbed hold of me and turned me away because he thought I had been hit in the eye."

“I went home and the next morning I went to hospital straight away they told me that my cheek had collapsed.?

“They took an X-ray and found my cheekbone was shattered in four places. I had to have four metal plates put in my cheek during a three-and-a-half hour operation.”
