A man who raped a woman in her office in the early hours of the morning as she slept has received a six-year jail sentence at the Old Bailey.

The attack took place in the early hours of Saturday, 16 May at an office building in Abchurch Lane in the City of London.

The court heard how the victim had been socialising with colleagues after work at a bar in the City and had come into contact with Daniel Green and his workmates at another bar, before going onto a club.

After the club closed, one of the group suggested continuing the night at their offices and they travelled back to offices in Abchurch Lane.

At about 4am, the victim decided to sleep under a desk, but was woken by Green trying to remove her clothes – despite her pleas, he proceeded to rape her, only stopping when he realised his victim was crying.

The woman quickly called a friend who informed the police and Green was arrested by officers at his home address later that same day.

In interview the following day, Green did not answer any questions and gave a prepared statement denying the allegation against him.

On Friday 9 September at the Old Bailey, Daniel Robert Green, 26, of Walthamstow in east London was sentenced to six years in prison for one count of rape, after a four-day trial. He will be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Detective Inspector Anne Medlycott from the City of London Police said:

“This was a predatory attack on a vulnerable young woman, who will have to live with what has happened to her for the rest of her life.

“Green has shown no remorse for his actions, putting the victim through the trauma of a trial – and we hope this verdict will bring some comfort to the brave survivor of this life-changing crime.

“We praise her courage in reporting it to us – and we encourage other victims to do the same.”
