Throughout March 2020 our wills and probate department will be once again taking part in Free Wills Month, offering free will drafting services to those aged 55 and above. The team, led by director Caroline Roche, will offer those eligible the opportunity to have a ‘simple’ will written or updated free of charge.
Making a will is something many people put off, however it is vitally important to have a valid will to ensure that your wishes are respected and carried out, and that your loved ones avoid any difficult decisions or legal complications. Circumstances often change and so making an update or amendment to an existing will is just as important, and should not be disregarded.
Those taking part will not have to pay for having their simple will drafted or updated – if a more complex will is required costs may be incurred, however most people will only require a simple will – however there is the opportunity to leave a legacy gift to one of Free Wills Month’s supported charities which include; Stroke Association, Mencap, British Heart Foundation, Guide Dogs, Marie Curie, Diabetes UK, The Royal British Legion, Versus Arthritis, AgeUK, Blue Cross, National Trust and Tenovus Cancer Care.
Our wills and probate team are not only experts in drafting and amending wills for a range of clients, but they have also raised a remarkable amount of money for Free Wills Month’s associated charities.
Last year, the team helped to raise £3,503,500 of future income for the selected charities, which included The Royal British Legion, Marie Curie, Stroke Association, Versus Arthritis, Mind, British Heart Foundation, Blue Cross, Age UK, The Salvation Army, NSPCC, Guide Dogs, and RLNI Lifeboats.
Wills and probate director Caroline Roche comments;
“I am delighted to be participating in yet another scheme that gives those who may be financially limited the ability to make their will, thus giving themselves and their loved ones the reassurance that their affairs shall be in order when they pass away. I hope this will highlight the importance of making a will and encourage those who haven’t yet got round to doing so to finally make their will.”
How to get involved
During March, we collaborate with Free Wills Month by offering our will drafting services to those over 55 years old. To take part, users must sign up to Free Wills Month by filling out a simple form online. Once completed, the user will be notified of a list of participating law firms in the local area.
Users can then contact their chosen law firm to arrange an appointment. Spaces are limited and so it is key to get in touch as soon as possible.
Alternatively, those wishing to draft or update their will for free can contact Caroline Roche for further information on 020 3114 1104 or at caroliner@duncanlewis.com
