Duncan Lewis, Wills and Probate Solicitors, Duncan Lewis offering free Wills drafting during Free Wills Month

Free Wills Month launches today and we are pleased to announce that our Wills & Probate team are participating by donating their services. Led by director Caroline Roche, the team will be offering ‘simple’ Will drafting and redrafting for those who sign up.

Who is eligible for a free Will?

Anyone who is over 55 who does not have a Will or requires an update or redraft of their current Will is able to take advantage of free Wills month this March. If you are considering whether you need to redraft/ update your Will, remember to think about whether anything has changed in your life since you last drafted your Will; has a birth or death occurred, a marriage, or have your assets changed? Read our article ‘Changing a Will – is it really necessary?’ to help you decide if you need to redraft/ update your Will.

All you have to do is sign up to Free Wills Month by filling in a simple form which will notify you when the Free Wills month is beginning in your local area and what local law firms are participating. Solicitors from within your area will be available to draft/ redraft your Will at no cost to you.

How do I claim my free Will?

Once you have a list of the local law firms that are participating in Free Wills Month it is up to you to contact them to schedule your consultation.
You may sign up at any time within the month; however appointments are limited so it is important to get in touch with a participating solicitor as soon as possible to make sure you don’t miss out.

Anyone attending their consultation is reminded that they will need to bring a form of ID; a passport or driving licence will be accepted.

At Duncan Lewis, our Wills & Probate solicitors have extensive experience drafting Wills for a wide variety of people. The team understand that the process requires patience and sensitivity and they will make sure to keep your best interests at the forefront throughout.

As part of the service you may choose to leave a legacy in your Will to one of the charities supporting Free Wills Month.

What does it mean to leave a legacy?

Free Wills Month has a number of supporting charities which are all set up around a variety of causes, some of which may be very close to home for you and your family.

These charities exist to help and support people all over the UK and they rely on regular donations to keep doing the essential work they do. Financial donations can come in the form of monthly payments, or one off donations. Some people also choose to make a donation to a charity in their Will in what is known as a legacy. A legacy can be given in the form of a gift or a monetary donation.

Free Wills Month asks that those who sign up consider leaving a legacy to one of the supporting charities. This is completely discretionary; you may bequeath as little or as much as your wish to give to your chosen charity.

Director Caroline Roche is pleased to be getting involved this March:

“I am delighted to be participating in yet another Will scheme which gives those who may be financially limited the ability to make their Will, thus giving themselves and their loved ones the reassurance that their affairs shall be in order when they pass away. I hope this will highlight the importance of making your Will and encourage those who haven’t yet got round to doing so to finally make their Will.”
