Duncan Lewis Solicitors’ Wills and Probate department raise significant funds for charities during Free Wills Month (1 November 2019)

In March this year, Duncan Lewis’ wills and probate department took part in Free Wills Month, the campaign that allows members of the public aged 55 and over to have their simple wills written or updated free of charge by a participating solicitor during the designated month. Whilst the service is free of charge, users are encouraged to leave a gift in their will to one of the associated charities.
We are pleased to reveal that the work carried out by wills and probate director Caroline Roche and her team in Harrow has contributed to £3,503,500 of future income raised for the selected Free Wills Month Charities.
The charities involved in the scheme include; The Royal British Legion, Marie Curie, Stroke Association, Versus Arthritis, Mind, British Heart Foundation, Blue Cross, Age UK, The Salvation Army, NSPCC, Guide Dogs, and RLNI Lifeboats.
Approximately half of UK adults have not prepared a will, risking their estate being left to someone they did not want to inherit it. Having an up-to-date will written by a solicitor is essential and ensures that an individual’s wishes are respected, and that difficult decisions and legal complications for their loved ones are avoided after they have gone.
Our wills and probate department has participated part in a number of schemes alongside Free Wills Month to encourage individuals to draw up or update their will, including Cancer Research’s Free Will service and Will Aid.
Free Wills Month takes place in March each year and we will be participating once more in March 2020.
