Cardiff Council has said that a rise in the number of drivers being caught by bus lane cameras is “disappointing”.
The council says that it has now received £3.6 million-worth of fines from nearly 100,000 drivers caught by bus lane cameras in Cardiff – the total raised throughout the 18 months of the scheme now stands at £3,673,075.
Figures showed a steady decline in bus lane tickets issued up to March 2016.
The number of tickets issued in March fell to 5,955, compared to the October figure of 12,386.
However, in April, a total of 6,389 tickets were issued – and in May, there were 6,855 tickets issued, according to figures from Cardiff Council.
There have been approximately 950 successful appeals in the last two months, the council said.
However, Cardiff Council Cabinet Member Councillor Ramesh Patel called the rise in bus lane tickets issued “disappointing”.
“After a steady decline in the number of tickets issued up until this March this year for the illegal use of bus lanes, it is disappointing that the trend hasn’t continued,” said Cllr Patel.
