The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has prosecuted a Nottinghamshire demolition company for safety failings.
On 16 July 2015, Prodem Demolition and Asbestos Limited was contracted to remove tiles from a domestic property, during which the company was reported to the HSE for unsafe work at height activity.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive into the incident found that contractors were working on a steep roof removing tiles, without any form of equipment or protection to prevent them falling off the roof.
The contractors had planned to work from the basket of a mobile elevated work platform or cherry picker – however, the company did not follow the plan, putting the workers at significant risk of falling and risk of serious injury.
At Leicester Magistrates’ Court, Prodem Demolition and Asbestos Limited of Western Boulevard, in Aspley, Nottinghamshire pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 13(1) of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
The company was fined £6,000 and ordered to pay costs of £765.
