Duncan Lewis, Personal Injury Solicitors, Murdered bride’s father has arm re-attached after work accident

The father of a bride shot dead on her honeymoon in Cape Town has had his arm re-attached after the limb was torn off in a work accident.

London newspaper the Evening Standard reports that the father of murdered bride Anni Dwani was working as a lift engineer in Sweden when the work accident happened.

Lift engineer Vinod Hindocha, 65, was repairing the lift when the chain holding the cage slipped, sending the lift crashing to the ground floor of the building.

Mr Hindocha was inside the lift but his arm was outside the lift cage and was torn off just below the shoulder as the lift descended at speed down the shaft.

He was taken to a hospital in Gothenburg where surgeons worked for 13 hours to re-attach the limb. It is reported he is beginning to feel some sensation in his fingertips and movement in his elbow, but it may be up to 18 months before it is known how much sensation he will regain in the limb.

Mr Hindocha’s 28-year-old daughter Anni was murdered on her honeymoon in South Africa in 2010 – in December 2014, her husband Shrien Dewani, 35, was acquitted of her murder after standing trial.
