A learning support assistant from London who visited her dentist to have new crowns fitted says she was horrified to find that all her upper teeth had been removed instead.

The Daily Mail reports that 46-year-old mother-of-one, Nikki Stanley, became a recluse after her dental treatment, which left her embarrassed about her appearance.

Her dental nightmare began six years ago when she went to a dentist and thought she was having a couple of crowns fitted.

However, when she woke up from the anaesthetic used, she discovered that all her upper teeth had been extracted.

The experience left her so frightened of going to the dentist that she did not have any treatment on her remaining lower jaw – and ended up with just five teeth left.

The dentist who removed her upper teeth gave her a plate to wear – but Mrs Stanley claims she was not shown how to use it and the plate felt “alien” to her.

Mrs Stanley says the experience prevented her from leaving home – and she was bullied in the street when she did go out because of her appearance.

However, a Harley Street surgeon has now fitted Mrs Stanley with implants. Dr Anthony Zybutz carried out reconstructive dental surgery – but had to remove all of Mrs Stanley’s teeth before fitting her with implants in her upper and lower jaw. He also had to remove decayed stumps of her teeth in her jaw, before fitting the implants in eight hours of dental surgery.

Mrs Stanley said that having the reconstructive dental surgery had changed her life.

“It's just nice to go out and hold my head up and smile and not look down when people look at me,” she added.
