A British holidaymaker has died after falling over a wall and plunging 30 feet the popular Spanish holiday island Menorca.

Kay Flitcroft, 30, from Blackpool in Lancashire tumbled over a wall while walking home to her holiday apartment and fell to her death.

Mrs Flitcroft was walking home to her holiday accommodation after spending Friday (31/05/14) evening in a bar with friends watching TV. Her 34-year-old husband Ben had already returned to their holiday apartment and did not realise his wife was missing until he woke up at 7am on Saturday morning and discovered she had not returned home.

Mr Flitcroft said that as soon as he woke and realised his wife was missing, he phoned round friends, who told him they had not seen her. He then heard an ambulance and ran out of the apartment to see an ambulance at the spot where he found she had fallen.

The couple had been staying in Cala En Porter on Menorca, where Mrs Flitcroft’s parents have retired.

Mrs Flitcroft was taken to hospital and was then transferred to another hospital at Palma in Mallorca by air ambulance, with her parents at her side. However, she later died from her injuries.

An investigation into what happened has been launched, but currently Mrs Flitcroft’s death is being treated as a holiday accident by Spanish police and accident investigators.

Her husband said he learned of her death in a phone call from the Palma hospital on Sunday morning, which advised him she had died the previous night.

Mr Flitcroft said:

“Kay was the life and soul of the party. She never wanted to miss anything and always wanted to be the last to leave. I've lost my soulmate.”

The family has returned home but may have to wait for several weeks before Mrs Flitcroft’s body can be returned to the UK, pending police investigations into her death.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said that it was aware of reports of the death of a British national on the island of Menorca and added that the Foreign Office was investigating.
