Personal injury and clinical negligence solicitor Nilma Shah and family and child care solicitor Sarah Rashid are attending the TUC Annual Regional Conference in Derby on Saturday 30th March in order to deliver specialist legal advice and support to those attending and to highlight the most telling issues surrounding access to justice today.

Held in the Derby Conference Centre, the conference will be attended by numerous delegates TUC affiliated unions and trade councils, including the TUC General Secretary, Frances O’Grady and TUC Midlands Regional Secretary Lee Barron.

The Trade Union Congress – which celebrated 150 years of trade unionism last year - is a national trade union centre, representing the majority of trade unions in England and Wales. Throughout its history the TUC has been fighting for safe workplaces and wages that a life and home can be built upon, today the TUC strives to ensure that every job is up to standard and that everyone at work is treated with respect. Jointly 5.5 million working people are brought together by the TUC making up 51 member unions.

We believe that everybody should have access to justice regardless of their background and, like the TUC, stand up for individuals in order to give people a voice. The current rules for legal aid funding create obstacles for the most vulnerable individuals accessing justice, irrespective of the merit of their claims. As the largest UK provider of legal aid, with legal aid franchises in 11 areas of law, we are committed to enabling access to high quality legal assistance no matter what our clients’ circumstances.

With solicitors specialising in personal injury, clinical/medical negligence, employment law, wills and probate and family law matters, we handle matters that are close to the TUC’s heart on a day-to-day basis. Our aim in attending the conference is to inform delegates and attendees about the most telling issues surrounding access to justice today and to offer assistance and support in all areas of law to those who may require it.

We hope that by attending the conference we can demonstrate to attendees that the service our solicitors offer clients are in line with the values and ethos of the TUC, and that trade union members will be encouraged to enlist our services should they require legal assistance in the future.

Attending the conference are solicitors Nilma Shah and Sarah Rashid. Nilma, based in our Harrow office, works in the clinical negligence and personal injury departments, she regularly handles a variety of injury claims resulting from delays or misdiagnosis, as well as personal injury claims involving asbestos, accidents at work, accidents in public, slips and trips, and road traffic accidents.

Sarah is a solicitor in the family and child care department based in our Birmingham office and represents clients in all areas of family law including divorce, financial disputes, cohabitation, and private children matters. We provide legal assistance in over 25 areas of law from our other regional offices including Bradford, Cardiff, Leicester, Luton, Milton Keynes and Swansea, as well as in offices across London.

The TUC’s commitment to better and equal pay, health and safety, family-friendly working conditions, and training opportunities is something we support at Duncan Lewis Solicitors. We have dedicated teams of expert solicitors who can assist and advise when issues preventing individuals from accessing these principles arise.

We look forward to meeting with delegates at the conference to discuss the legal services available to TUC members and learn more about the TUC’s future plans and initiatives.
