Duncan Lewis, Main Solicitors, Solicitor Lynda Reid becomes Director of Housing at Cardiff office

We are pleased to announce that solicitor Lynda Reid has been appointed Director of Housing at the firm’s Cardiff office.

Lynda will be leading the Cardiff based housing department which handles both publically and privately funded social housing matters including; homelessness, disrepair, eviction, possession proceedings and neighbourhood problems.

Lynda joined Duncan Lewis in 2015 and has over 25 years of post-qualification experience, litigating across a range of housing law matters with a particular speciality in Equality Act defences. Thanks to her extensive experience, she has provided legal advice for a book on debt, given a keynote speech for an event held by a national charity, and acted as legal consultant to the producers of BBC Raw.

Committed to helping the most vulnerable of society, she is a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ in the 2019 edition of The Legal 500, and in 2018 Lynda was ‘Highly Commended’ for the Best Contribution by and Individual award at the LawWorks Pro Bono Awards for the significant pro bono work undertaken in and around the Cardiff area. This includes establishing an additional two pro bono clinics in the South-Wales areas of Risca and Blaenau Gwent alongside the work already carried out by the housing department in Cardiff.

This pro bono work offers invaluable support to those communities that would otherwise struggle to reach essential legal advice, fulfilling the Duncan Lewis ethos of ensuring that access to justice is accessible to all and that everybody can be given a voice.

On her announcement as director, Lynda commented;

“I am delighted by my appointment as director; myself and my team will continue to work hard to support our clients to ensure their voices are heard.”

Duncan Lewis’ Housing law practice is recommended for its specialism in all housing matters by the independent legal directory, The Legal 500. The Cardiff branch is noted for providing;

'"…thorough, clear and concise advice" to tenants across a broad array of contentious work including reviews, appeals and judicial review proceedings relating to homelessness, disrepair, succession for tenants and neighbourhood disputes.'

The department assists clients throughout England and Wales in all matters or issues involving local housing authorities, housing applications, tenants, landlords, ownership and repairs. The department specialises in representation in all social housing proceedings including reviews, appeals, and judicial review relating to homelessness, disrepair, succession for tenants, and neighbourhood disputes against local authorities.

The 2019 edition of The Legal 500 describes the Duncan Lewis Housing Department as 'one of the most effective firms practicing social housing law.’ Along with Lynda, the company’s housing team is led by nine Directors across key offices nationwide, these are Manjinder Kaur Atwal, Bernadette Chikwe, Dianne Cowie, Lorick Winarskie, James De Vere Moss, Chinedu Orogbu, David Head and Subbiah Sivapunniyam.
