Duncan Lewis, Main Solicitors, Nicholas Hughes discusses the legal implications of Brexit on ABN Radio

Public Law Caseworker Nicholas Hughes was invited to ABN radio to discuss the triggering of Article 50.

He discussed the legal implications for people from the EU employed in the UK noting that the rights of EU citizens in the UK are the UK’s key bargaining chip – if, as many are calling for, these rights are secured at an early stage it is unlikely that the EU will feel obliged to give the UK a decent deal. This consequently will leave a lot of EU citizens in a place of uncertainty for quite some time.

He also explained what the great repeal bill means for EU law in the UK, discussing the importance of quickly and effectively rewriting these laws in order to protect businesses and consumers. He is quoted:

"The amount of work that needs to be done in the short time frame it needs to be done in is a bit worrying and it’s concerning whether the laws that will be brought in will be as effective and as well thought through as the ones that were brought in by Europe."
