Jodie Spencer is a Solicitor in the Public Law department at Duncan Lewis Solicitors, based in the firm’s City of London office. Jodie joined Duncan Lewis in September 2023 as a trainee solicitor on the SQE route, working under the guidance of Supervisor Simon Robinson and Director Toufique Hossain, and gaining invaluable experience across a wide spectrum of complex legal matters. Following completion of her Qualifying Work Experience in Duncan Lewis’ Public Law department, Jodie qualified as a solicitor in March 2025

 

Jodie represents some of the most vulnerable individuals in society, including survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. She also handles cases of unlawful detention and immigration.

 

Additionally, Jodie has extensive experience working with asylum seekers and refugees across camps and detention centres in Athens, Lesvos and Samos, as well as supporting international advocacy organisations to prevent the sexual exploitation of children. She has also been heavily involved in the array of public law litigation challenging the conditions and treatment of Tamil asylum seekers held in the British Indian Ocean Territory of Diego Garcia. Jodie continues to represents these clients as they navigate their applications of international protection in the UK.

 

Prior to qualifying, Jodie practiced as an accredited Level 2 Senior Caseworker under the Law Society's Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme, recognising her as a trusted and competent advisor in this field. 

 

Discussing the course of her traineeship, Jodie said:

 

“Training with Duncan Lewis gave me enormous exposure to a diverse range of cases in the immigration and public law fields. Trainees and caseworkers are given extensive responsibilities in case-management both in immigration and preliminary legal help work for public law challenges. Towards the end of my training, I was given increased exposure to each step of bringing a Judicial Review, which I felt prepared me for taking on the role of a qualified solicitor”
