Date: 23/04/2024
Duncan Lewis, Main Solicitors, Happening Tomorrow: Family Law Advice for the Neurodivergent Community to Host its First Conference at Slaughter & May.

‘Promoting Access to Justice for Neurodivergent Children and Adults in the Family Justice System Conference’ will be hosted by Family Law Advice for the Neurodivergent Community (FLANC) at Slaughter & May this Wednesday on the 24th April, featuring a keynote speech from President of the Family Division, Sir Andrew McFarlane and chaired by Jenny Beck KC (Hon)

FLANC was founded by expert lawyers dedicated to ensuring that the neurodivergent community has equal access to justice by addressing barriers to participation in family proceedings and dispute resolution. The conference will hear insights and updates from professionals and families engaged in the family justice system, exploring current barriers and highlighting the important work being done to galvanise change and promote best practice.

The conference, which will be offered in a hybrid format both online and in person, will hear from a distinguished line-up of expert speakers. Professor Rob George of UCL will discuss the latest research and best practice, offering valuable insights. Caroline Croft, Barrister from Coram Chambers, will provide a first-hand perspective from the frontline. Sarah Cockburn, CAFCASS Assistant Service Manager and Children’s Guardian, will offer a unique viewpoint from the child's perspective, enriching the conversation by exploring the experiences of neurodivergent children engaged in the family justice system.

Alia Lewis, Director at Duncan Lewis and Head of the firms’ specialist Autism & ADHD Unit, is a co-founder of FLANC together with Jenny Beck KC (Hon). Alia and Paula McGowan OBE, will share their ideas on how the family justice system can be improved to better accommodate neurodivergent individuals.
