Duncan Lewis, Main Solicitors, Duncan Lewis shortlisted for LawWorks 2017 Annual Pro Bono Awards

Duncan Lewis Solicitors are excited to announce that we have been shortlisted for four awards at the LawWorks 2017 Annual Pro Bono Awards.

The Awards recognise and celebrate achievement in legal pro bono work, undertaken by organisations and individuals, and the commitment of the legal sector in enabling access to justice and supporting individuals, communities and not-for-profit organisations.

Our nominees are;

  1. Best Contribution by a Firm with a London Head Office

    Duncan Lewis is immensely proud of the pro bono work carried out by our Pro Bono Committee. The work done has impacted on countless individuals and families many of which would not be able to access mainstream legal services due to language, financial or education barriers. The firm works closely with the Brixton Domestic Violence Clinic, Turkish Cypriot Women’s Project advice surgery and Trussell Trust Brent food bank amongst many others.

  2. The LawWorks Cymru Award

    The invaluable pro bono work done by the Duncan Lewis Solicitors’ Housing Team in Cardiff successfully assists the community’s most vulnerable clients who, without their help, may not have the means, education or mental capacity to access justice. In addition to a drop-in surgery at the Duncan Lewis Cardiff office, the team is involved with other projects including the Housing Pro Bono Surgery at Cardiff Civil Justice Centre and a surgery at Cardiff Central Library which is run in union with Citizens Advice Bureau and Cardiff County Council.

  3. Best Contribution by an Individual – Heather Iqbal Rayner

    Duncan Lewis’ Director of Housing Law in Cardiff, Heather Iqbal Rayner has been shortlisted for the Best Contribution by an Individual Award at the 2017 LawWorks Pro Bono Awards. Following her recent success at the Law Society Excellence Awards where she was highly commended in her shortlisting for Woman Lawyer of the Year, this nomination is further testament to the excellent work she has been making in her field.

  4. Best Contribution by and Individual – Emine Mehmet

    Duncan Lewis’ Family and Childcare Director, Emine Mehmet won the coveted Family Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year in 2016 at the 6th Annual Family Law Awards and her shortlisting this year for the Best Contribution by an Individual Award at the 2017 LawWorks Pro Bono Awards further highlights her success in her field of law.

In addition, we are pleased to announce that we are also part of the “most effective partnership” with the Romford Autism Hub. Since October, Duncan Lewis’ Family and Childcare Director, Emine Mehmet has been providing free legal advice sessions at the Romford Autism Hub Legal Advice Clinic which opened in February this year. We are extremely pleased that her actions have resulted in Duncan Lewis being considered a part of the “most effective partnership” and are proud of the good work being done to make legal advice more accessible to individuals with autism or learning difficulties.

The winners of the LawWorks 2017 Annual Pro Bono Awards will be announced on Tuesday 5th December.

Huge congratulations to all our nominees who have been recognised for their hard work and dedication in their respective fields. Good luck to everyone!
