Duncan Lewis, Main Solicitors, Duncan Lewis Solicitors shortlisted at the 2020 Law Society Excellence Awards

We are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for a number of awards at this year’s Law Society Excellence Awards. The firm has been shortlisted for the Excellence in Access to Justice, Excellence in Business Development, Excellence in Pro Bono, and Large Law Firm of the Year awards, whilst public law director Ahmed Aydeed has been shortlisted for the Human Rights Lawyer of the Year award.

The Law Society Excellence Awards are one of the most prestigious accolades for law firms in England and Wales, recognising the work accomplished throughout the legal profession in the last twelve months.

This is the first time the firm has been shortlisted in the Excellence in Access to Justice category which celebrates outstanding achievements in access to justice and the provision of legal aid services. As the largest supplier of legal aid services in England and Wales, our overriding aim is to give our clients a voice and to ensure that the most vulnerable in society have access to justice irrespective of their individual circumstances.

At last year’s awards we were highly commended for Excellence in Business Development and hope to go one step further this year. The award recognises that business environments and client expectations continuously evolve and we work hard to develop new and innovative ways to deliver our legal services across England and Wales.

Our commitment to providing pro bono services remains as ardent as ever and it is a testament to the work of both our individual lawyers and the dedicated Duncan Lewis Pro Bono Committee that we have been shortlisted for the Excellence in Pro Bono award. We recognise that despite our best efforts there are many people who can neither afford to instruct solicitors on a private basis nor do they qualify for legal aid and so in line with our commitment to giving people a voice we carry out numerous pro bono activities to combat this issue.

Being shortlisted for the Large Law Firm of the Year award is an immense honour and a testament to the work carried out by the whole firm in the last year in spite of the many challenges that have been faced in recent times. In 2018 we were highly commended in this category which demonstrates the continued excellence shown by our firm.

In the last year Ahmed Aydeed has received significant praise for the work he has carried out in combatting modern slavery and human trafficking which has resulted in positive implications for both his own clients and others who have been subjected to slavery. His focus is not only on the prevention of modern slavery and trafficking, but also on creating a more positive future for those who have been subjected to such practices. He is thoroughly deserving of being shortlisted for the Human Rights Lawyer of the Year award. In 2018 Ahmed was highly commended for the same award and in 2017 he won the Junior Lawyer of the Year award.

We are incredibly proud to be shortlisted at the Law Society Excellence Awards and offer huge congratulations to Ahmed and to everyone involved in improving our approach and providing excellent legal services.

This year, the Law Society Excellence Awards will be a series of online ceremonies, taking place from 13 to 15 October. The event will be free to attend and registration is available along with a full awards schedule on the Law Society website.
