Duncan Lewis, Main Solicitors, Duncan Lewis Solicitors Welcomes Lisa Verro as Director in Actions Against Public Authorities

Duncan Lewis Solicitors is delighted to welcome Lisa Verro as Director within the firm’s Actions Against Public Authorities department, based in the firm’s Leeds office. With more than 25 years of experience in civil liberties, human rights, abuse litigation and claims against public authorities, Lisa further strengthens the firm's nationally recognised practice and reinforces its commitment to securing justice for individuals whose rights have been violated by state bodies and public institutions.

Since qualifying as a solicitor in 2000, Lisa has built a distinguished career representing vulnerable individuals who have suffered serious abuses of power by agents of the state. Lisa conducts litigation nationwide against the police, the Ministry of Justice, G4S, and Serco, acting for clients in a broad range of claims involving wrongful arrest, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, negligence, trespass, assault, and breaches of the Human Rights Act. She has also successfully represented clients pursuing claims involving racial and disability discrimination.

Earlier in her career, Lisa led a specialist Abuse department representing survivors of abuse in claims against local authorities, residential institutions, religious organisations, and other bodies. She played a key role in major multi-party abuse litigation, including one of the largest group actions against a single children’s home in the UK, and advised on claims arising from historical abuse suffered at Medomsley Detention Centre.

Prior to joining Duncan Lewis, Lisa held a number of senior leadership and supervisory roles within specialist civil liberties, abuse, and actions against public authorities practices.  For more than 25 years, Lisa has supervised and managed specialist legal teams, delivered training within the legal sector and to survivor organisations, and contributed to the development and growth of civil liberties and abuse practices nationwide.

Alongside her litigation practice, Lisa has also lectured in law at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas, Sorbonne Université, and Université Paris Nanterre and the Paris Bar School. She taught subjects including the English Legal System, Tort Law, Contract Law, and Criminal Law.

Lisa is a longstanding member of the Police Action Lawyers Group and continues to provide pro bono legal advice to survivors of abuse through HAVOCA.
