We are delighted to have been ‘Highly Commended’ for the LawWorks Cymru Award at this year’s LawWorks Pro Bono Awards.
The awards celebrate the best legal pro bono activities undertaken by organisations and individuals and the positive impact they have had on those helped.
The LawWorks Cymru Award recognises the pro bono initiatives carried out in Wales, and our Wales-based immigration department has been consistently providing pro bono services to those most in need of legal assistance and advice.
The pro bono work carried out by our Wales-based team has made a considerable impact on the lives of countless vulnerable individuals and by recognising the difficulties that many people in the local communities face, they have sought out relevant charities and organisations to collaborate with and best enable them to assist those in need.
The essential pro bono work that is being carried out by our teams in Wales continues to bring invaluable support to communities that would otherwise be out of reach of much needed legal advice. The teams routinely go above and beyond in order to best serve those in need of high-quality legal advice. It is this dedication to the people they serve that makes the team’s pro bono activity so impactful to the communities throughout south-west Wales.
A major contributor to the pro bono work carried out by the Wales team is solicitor Samuel Bass who was shortlisted for the Junior Lawyers Pro Bono Award 2020. He has been assisting Asylum Justice, the only charitable organisation in Wales that offers free legal advice and representation to asylum seekers, recognised refugees, and vulnerable migrants, by devoting his Monday evenings to assisting every refugee or asylum seeker that attends the drop-in session, often taking on over 30 clients in a single evening. During these sessions, Samuel has identified the merits of numerous cases which have gone on to achieve successful outcomes at application, appeal, and judicial review stages.
We are incredibly proud of the pro bono work carried out by everybody in our Wales-based team and are delighted that their efforts have been recognised by LawWorks. We hope to continue to provide pro bono services to those in need from all of our offices across England and Wales.
