Duncan Lewis Solicitors Announces Gender Pay-Gap Reporting for 2022 (4 April 2023)

Date: 04/04/2023
Duncan Lewis, Main Solicitors, Duncan Lewis Solicitors Announces Gender Pay-Gap Reporting for 2022

Duncan Lewis Solicitors has published its annual gender pay-gap reporting for 2022. The gender pay-gap legislation introduced in April 2017 requires all employers of 250 or more employees to publish their gender pay-gap for employees, which are in scope on an annual basis.

The Gender Pay Gap is a measure across all jobs in the company, not of the difference in pay between men and women for doing the same job. The reporting of both median and mean gender pay statistics also reveals the following limitations: a lack of comparison in relation to comparable job roles/title(s), furthermore, the calculations fail to take into account intangible aspects which affect salary such as qualifications, employment experience and personal skills.

In the Company’s 2022 gender pay-gap reporting, using a snapshot of 5 April 2022, the male to female mean gender pay-gap was 8%, which is consistent with industry average. The gap is smaller when considering only full-time employees, just 3%. In part-time employment the gap is -15% which means that part-time female employees on average hourly earn 15% more than their male counterparts. The company’s median pay-gap was at 22%. In accordance with the current Office for National Statistic, the nationwide average gap among all employees is approximately 14.9%.

In relation to Duncan Lewis’ entire workforce (71% female and 29% male), the report found:

  • Top salary quartile: 33% men and 67% women

  • Upper middle salary quartile: 30% men and 70% women

  • Lower middle salary quartile: 28% men and 72% women

  • Lower salary quartile: 25% men and 75% women

Jason Bruce, Duncan Lewis’ Practice Director states: “Our Gender Pay Gap Reporting is accurate for 5 April 2022. Although we are pleased to see that the mean gender pay-gap was in line with industry average, we note that the median gender pay was 22% and we have set out in our report the limitations to this analysis and why the male median dataset would be distorted. Importantly, the Company’s pay quartile analysis across all of our roles is consistent with the male to female workforce split firm-wide. As of April 2022, women accounted for 67% and 70% of the Company’s top two pay quartiles respectively. Duncan Lewis remains committed to the fair treatment and pay of all its employees regardless of gender and is committed to narrowing the median pay-gap across all quartiles even further.”

The Company is accredited by the Investors in People at Gold Standard and implements a number of family-friendly flexible working policies including hybrid-working. In the last 12 months up to 5 April 2022, approximately 17% of the Company’s workforce (both male and female) were implementing at least one additional form of flexible working, such as Part Time, Adjusted Hours and Compressed Hours.
