Once again, Duncan Lewis has achieved success at the annual Law Society Excellence Awards with the firm being ‘highly recommended’ for the Excellence in Business Development category.
Celebrating examples of initiatives that challenge convention, the Excellence in Business Development Award recognises firms that have found new and innovative ways to match the constantly evolving client expectations, secure new business, and deliver legal services each year.
Since the cuts to legal aid, the firm has recognised the changing needs of a large proportion of our clients, many of whom find themselves in legal aid ‘deserts’ where access to legal services is impeded or scarce. As such, our Legal Outreach Initiative (LOI) focuses on connecting vulnerable clients with a specialist lawyer from the outset, enabling those who are most at risk in society to access high-quality and immediate legal advice, throughout England and Wales.
Thanks to the LOI we have expanded our physical presence to smaller pockets of the UK population by increasing our number of offices and growing the number of areas of law that we handle, allowing us to give vulnerable members of society access to excellent legal services regardless of their location.
Last year we relaunched our website, which was developed by our in-house web-development department. After considerable market research, new hires, and a review of existing in-house expertise, we established and developed our services according to our clients’ needs. The website has developed our user-friendliness and has made it easier for readers to access information.
We further identified an increase in the number of clients seeking to benefit from our corporate services, which include matters pertaining to business crime/investigation; immigration advice for businesses; commercial and company advice and assistance; commercial litigation/disputes; commercial property services; and international disputes. Consequently, during the development process of the website, we focused on highlighting our corporate services in a manner equal to those offered to private and publicly funded individuals.
The awards judges were impressed by the way Duncan Lewis delivered a model of working that;
“…stretches the traditional legal services delivery, with a compelling service proposition that showed quality and value to their clients, while helping those who are most at risk in society.”
We are extremely proud to have our business development in the last twelve months be recognised and celebrated by the Law Society, and are delighted to have been highly commended for the Excellence in Business Development Award.
This year we achieved five shortlistings, with public law director Toufique Hossain and solicitors Lewis Kett and Krisha Pranthepan finalists for the Human Rights Solicitor of the Year award, and housing director Manjinder Kaur Atwal shortlisted for Solicitor of the Year – Private Practice in addition to our Excellence in Business Development listing.
For the last thirteen years the Law Society Excellence Awards have been celebrating the work and achievements of solicitors, legal teams and firms of all sizes across England and Wales. Duncan Lewis has enjoyed considerable success at these awards in recent years, with public law director Ahmed Aydeed winning Junior Lawyer of the Year in 2017, and the firm and a number of individuals – including Toufique Hossain and Lewis Kett –being highly commended in categories including Law Firm of the Year, Junior Lawyer, and Human Rights Lawyer of the Year.
Continued recognition and acknowledgment of the work carried out at Duncan Lewis is invaluable and serves as a wonderful testament to the hard work, client commitment and legal excellence demonstrated by all at Duncan Lewis Solicitors.
We thank and congratulate everyone involved in the development and implementation of our Legal Outreach Programme, and offer huge congratulations and applause to all of our nominees.
