Duncan Lewis Solicitors are pleased to congratulate Public Law Director, Ahmed Aydeed as he is named a finalist in the Birmingham Law Society Awards 2018 for Partner of the Year. Since becoming a Director in Duncan Lewis’ Birmingham branch in 2017, Ahmed has proven to be a dedicated and integral leader in the department of Public Law, as recognised in this nomination.
Ahmed joined Duncan Lewis in 2012 and became a Director in Public Law last year in the firm’s Birmingham office, where he has established himself in a broad range of Public Law matters. Ahmed specialises in cases relating to public law and human rights matters, including asylum, international protection, EU law, nationality law, administrative detention, discrimination and equality, as well as family and child care proceedings.
Ahmed has played a key role in a selection of high profile challenges including the unlawful detention of migrants in the UK, the unlawful processions of asylum claims in the UK through the Detained Fast Track (DTF) system and, the criminalisation and detention of trafficking victims, torture victims and unaccompanied minor refugees. Ahmed is established in bringing judicial reviews against the Lord Chancellor, the Secretary of State for the Home Department, the Crown Court & Local Authorities.
In recognition of Ahmed’s commitment to safeguarding the most vulnerable members of society, the Birmingham Law Society Awards has seen fit to name him a finalist in the category for Partner of the Year. This year, the awards have been extended to include thirteen exclusive categories, within which Partner of the Year rewards the superior leadership and management demonstrated by senior law practitioners within the region.
The awards will the 17th annual event held in honour of the hard work and achievements of the key players in Law throughout the West Midlands. The winners will be announced on 8th March 2018 at the International Convention Centre (ICC), where Ahmed will attend alongside other innovators in law.

The Duncan Lewis Public Law Department has been recommended by Legal 500 2017, with particular praise for their work successfully challenging policies under which vulnerable individuals are detained in immigration detention centres. By way of judicial review, the Public Law Department challenges decisions made by public bodies which would otherwise be non-appealable.
