The Civil Litigation team has successfully defended a fraud victim that was unfairly pursued by a Debt Purchasing Company over a loan taken out in his name by a third party.

The client was facing a County Court claim for tens of thousands of pounds after a High Street Bank sold a disputed debt to the Debt Purchasing Company.

Duncan Lewis’ legal director Sunil Patel and caseworker Krishney Gosai took up the case after being contacted by the client.

Despite being a victim of fraud, the client was relentlessly pursued and found himself defending Court proceedings for a debt he did not owe.

The Client unsuccessfully made repeated attempts to resolve the matter directly with the bank and then with the Debt Purchasing Company.

The Client was facing court proceedings. At this critical juncture, he turned to Duncan Lewis for legal representation.

The Civil Litigation team persuaded the Debt Purchasing Company to abandon the claim, which enabled the client to recover his legal costs.
