We are delighted to say that Satvir Sahota has earned a promotion to director within our immigration team in Luton.
Satvir has over 13 years’ experience specialising in asylum and human rights law and is an accredited Level 2 Senior Caseworker and Supervisor under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme.
First joining Duncan Lewis in February 2009 as an immigration caseworker, she qualified as a solicitor in July 2012.
Throughout her post-qualification experience, Satvir has specialised in all elements of private and family life applications, trafficking and modern slavery claims, along with detention, deportation and bail matters.
She said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as a director in the immigration department at Duncan Lewis. I joined the firm as a paralegal 13 years ago, during which time I have been fortunate enough to learn and work with some of the most respected professionals in the field. I am grateful to the firm for giving me the opportunity to progress my career and I am really looking forward to the next chapter.”
Satvir has built a remarkable caseload in judicial review claimant matters focusing on challenges in relation to decisions of the Single Competent Authority in trafficking matters, unlawful delays, unlawful denial of appeal rights in fresh asylum claims and unlawful detention and false imprisonment cases.
She has a particular devotion to assisting people who are wrongfully detained and securing their release from detention when they are being held under immigration law, and she is passionate about assisting vulnerable people, particularly those with mental health conditions, victims of torture and trafficking.
Satvir worked with us as a consultant solicitor from January 2014 to August 2018, before re-joining the company as an employed supervising solicitor within the public law and immigration departments at our Luton branch, where she continues to be based.
