This year’s Law Society Excellence Awards ceremony was certainly a night to remember for Duncan Lewis. It is a delight to announce that we were highly commended for the prestigious Law Firm of the Year – Large award.
Excitement was in the air thanks to our many shortlists, including; Excellence in Business Development, Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion, Law Firm of the Year - Large.
It was a glamorous night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London with the Law Society’s cream of the crop all in attendance. Among those, Duncan Lewis’ Practice Manager Jason Bruce, said;
“It is a privilege to be highly commended for Law Firm of the Year at this year’s Excellence Awards. We are committed to “giving people a voice” and have worked tirelessly over the last year to expand our reach and tackle the inequality that exists in terms of access to justice. We are thrilled that the work we have undertaken to ensure the provision of top-quality legal assistance to all of those seeking justice has been recognised and celebrated.”
Our commitment to ensuring everyone has access to justice has indeed been tireless, from launching our new, in-house developed website, to continuing our invaluable work undertaken at pro bono surgeries, the work carried out by all at the firm deserves to be recognised.
Despite facing significant changes in the industry, including on-going legal aid cuts, we continue to deliver legal services to those that are marginalised in society, retaining our position as the largest legal aid provider in England and Wales.
After considerable market research, new hires and a review of existing in-house expertise, we established and developed our new corporate services and departments according to our clients’ demographic needs. As a nationwide firm, servicing both publicly funded and private individuals/ businesses, we restructured our website by separating each area of law into three categories for legal aid, private and business users ensuring that nobody is excluded from the accessing the services we offer.
Furthermore, our expansion enables us to provide a more efficient service whilst our staff develops at a more rapid rate. We employ and cultivate talent as part of our retention and recruitment strategy, to ensure all staff have the opportunity to excel and to ensure that our diverse range of clients are best represented.
In all, it is a great honour to have our hard-work and efforts recognised and rewarded by the Law Society.
The success didn’t stop there, Public Law Director, Ahmed Aydeed was highly commended for the Human Rights Lawyer of the Year for his on-going battle against the criminalisation & detention of victims of trafficking (VOTs), and the unlawful detention of vulnerable migrants.
Jubilant Ahmed said;
“I’m grateful to the Law Society for this high commendation, and for recognising the importance of defending the rights of refugees, detained migrants and victims of modern slavery. In turn recognising the importance of legally aided public law work, as without it, my clients would have no recourse to justice. It is a privilege to represent my clients, who have been marginalised by the hostile environment and severe legal aid cuts.”
The achievements at this year’s awards are a fitting continuation to the success we attained last year whereby Ahmed Aydeed was the winner of the Junior Lawyer of the Year Award and Lewis Kett was highly commended. Additionally Toufique Hossain was highly commended for Human Rights Lawyer of the Year, Heather Iqbal Rayner was highly commended for Woman Lawyer of the Year.
Huge congratulations to Ahmed and to everyone who has helped Duncan Lewis to grow and progress over the last year. Here’s to us!
