The West Midland Combined Authority’s (WMCA) Mental Health Commission is collecting evidence from people who have mental health experiences and the knowledge of professional mental health practitioners and organisations by holding a series of listening events across the region.

The commission – chaired by Norman Lamb MP – hopes that people will register their interest in attending one of the three listening events to share their stories and experiences, as it works to understand the impact of poor mental health and wellbeing and the future role of public services.

The commission is also interested in hearing the opinions of people who have a broader interest in mental health – they are encouraging people to make an online submission for consideration.

Councillor Darren Cooper – Vice Chairman of the WMCA Shadow Board and lead for the commission, who is also a registered mental health nurse health – said:

“The Mental Health Commission is making every effort to listen to people who have experienced poor mental health, either directly or indirectly.

“We have successfully recruited 20 people to take part in our Citizens’ Jury and now we are going out on the road across the region to hear from more people and organisations.

“I would encourage people to visit our website to either register their interest in the listening events or to share their experiences through our online submission form.

“Together we can work towards making a real difference for future generations in our region.”

The listening events are taking place at Coventry Central Hall on 26 April, Dudley Town Hall on 29 April and Birmingham BVSC on 03 May, all from 1.30pm to 5pm. People can register their interest by going to the WMCA website – https://westmidlandscombinedauthority.org.uk/.
