Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners recommended Public Law Director James Packer was interviewed on LBC radio as an independent legal expert on 7th June, following the debate between Chuuka Umunna and Dominic Raab on the Brexit ‘leave’ campaign’s claims about EC law preventing the deportation of serious criminals.
Described by Legal 500 as a ‘top-level performer with an exceptional grasp of detail’, James has been recognised as a Leading Lawyer in his Field within the Chambers UK 2015 edition and has been highly recommended for his expertise by Legal 500 in both their 2014 and 2015 editions for both his Public Law and Immigration work.
During the radio broadcast, James clarifies to the microphones his position: “Although some of the claims by Mr. Raab were literally true, in the cases were decided under EC law, they were misleading in that several of the cases that Mr. Raab referred to would not have met the criteria for deportation under the UK’s ordinary laws that apply to deportation”.
James is a specialist in all forms of judicial review challenge, costs litigation, immigration, European Union and human rights matters.
He has a significant practice challenging unlawful immigration detention cases with high-net claims for damages and immigration removal decisions.
