We are thrilled to announce that Duncan Lewis’ Cardiff based Immigration and Public Law team have been shortlisted for Private Client Team of the Year at the first Wales Legal Awards.
The Wales Legal Awards have been established to recognise and celebrate the success of those practicing in and providing services to the legal profession in Wales.
Sponsored by SLD Wealth, our Cardiff team has been shortlisted for Private Client Team of the Year, an award that recognises outstanding performance from a team in providing exceptional and bespoke legal advice to clients and a commitment to excellence.
Headed by Immigration Director Vinita Templeton, the Immigration and Public Law team at Cardiff specialises in all aspects of immigration, public law, asylum and human rights. It has consistently maintained its ‘top tier’ status for Immigration in The Legal 500 since 2014 for its excellence in this area of law, making it the highest ranked immigration department in Wales.
The team has conducted a number of widely publicised and reported cases, and assists some of the most vulnerable individuals in society through extensive pro bono work and exceptional legal representation.
Immigration Director, Vinita Templeton is ranked as a ‘Leading Individual’ in the 2019 edition of The Legal 500 for her significant contributions in the Human Resources: Immigration, Wales category. Furthermore, consultant solicitor Vanessa Delgado and solicitor Eleri Haf Davies are both recommended for their immigration work.
The team have conducted a number of widely publicised and reported cases. Recent cases that have received extensive media coverage include the cases of an Afghan asylum seeker in Cardiff, and the case of a young Syrian asylum seeker whose family is settled in Cardiff. Both clients were detained and faced imminent removal, the team intervened and secured their release. Both these clients have now succeeded in their asylum claims and are recognised refugees. The team also carries out extensive pro bono work and in the case of LC Albania EWCA Civ 351 are representing the client pro bono in an application to the Supreme Court.
Winning this category would highlight the importance of human rights and public law work in the private client sector in South Wales. This is an important area of work that is overlooked, but one which impacts on the welfare and rights of each client that is represented.
In addition to immigration and public law work, the Duncan Lewis Cardiff office also has housing, family law and child care departments offering high quality legal advice and assistance to clients throughout South Wales. These services are also available at the firm’s Swansea office.

Solicitor Lynda Reid is also a ‘Recommended Individual’.
The family and child care department features lawyers who have achieved the Law Society’s Family Law Advanced and the Children Law accreditation and who represent children, parents and family members in a wide variety of issues including private children law matters, care proceedings and domestic abuse.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Mercure Hotel in Cardiff on the 17th May 2019. We are pleased to have made the shortlist and extend a huge congratulations to all of the immigration and public law team at Cardiff. Llongyfarchiadau i bawb.
