Leading Legal 500 national law firm Duncan Lewis is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Seher Toguz as Director of Immigration.

Seher joins Ayan Yalchin, Jenna McKinney, Ofonimeh Umoh Abudu, Trevor Hatton, Gabor Nagy, Neelam Bangar, Sangita Shah, Shahida Ilahi and Vicash Ramkissoon as Director and Joint Head of the Immigration Department. She will continue to practice from the company’s Hackney/Dalston branch.

Seher Toguz specialises in claimant immigration judicial review matters and civil claims in the High Court. She has extensive experience in all types of asylum and immigration cases, and is experienced in obtaining High Court injunctions and other forms of interim relief for those who require urgent legal assistance. She has wide-ranging experience in representing individuals with difficult immigration and criminal histories. She has a particular interest in pursuing unlawful immigration detention challenges against the UKBA, often arising from a variety of circumstances such as continued detention following a grant of bail by the immigration tribunal, detention of British nationals under immigration powers and the continued detention of foreign national prisoners beyond the completion of their prison sentence for no lawful reason.

It has a broad practice representing business and individual vulnerable clients at all levels in all aspects of business immigration, personal immigration, asylum/human rights and nationality matters. Duncan Lewis remains the dominant legal firm in the UK for the provision of publicly funded immigration legal services for asylum, immigration detention, bail, deportation appeals and EC law issues. The department has a niche practice representing judicial review immigration claimant cases before the higher courts; has a significant practice in Tribunal and Higher Courts immigration appeal and advocacy work and unlawful immigration detention cases with high net claims for damages and challenging immigration removal cases; in particular, Dublin II third country removal cases. The department’s business immigration arm represents high net worth individuals from Asia, Middle East and Russia in relation to their Points Based System (PBS) applications/appeals, including entrepreneur and investors visas.

Other recent Director appointments include London based Immigration judicial review specialist Gabor Nagy’s appointment as Director of Immigration. Further, Commercial litigation specialist Sobashni de Silva and Personal Injury specialist Julie Leslie have also been appointed as Directors of Litigation. The company’s Family and Childcare team expands further with Sarah Jopling, Francis Clare (Tooting office), Ravi Mahey, Michelle Bird (Harrow office) and Misbah Ali (Lewisham office) all appointed as Directors of Family & Childcare. They are joined by Kathy Walker and Kirsty Richards as new Directors of Family & Childcare in the company’s new offices in Barnet and Croydon respectively. Cardiff based Housing and Social Welfare law expert Heather Iqbal Rayner has been appointed as a Director of Housing.
