Basingstoke Council launches register for self-builders looking for plots (31 March 2016)

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council are launching a new register for self-builders looking for a plot of land.
Potential self-builders will be able to sign up to the new self-build register from Friday, 1 April.
Through the register, the council will be able to find out more about the demand for custom and self-build plots, popular locations for self-builds –
and the types of houses people would like to build.
The council will use the information to explore ways of bringing together would-be self-builders and available plots.
The register is open to anyone over the age of 18 who would make the new building their sole or main home.
The register will cover a range of projects, from single self-build projects to people or groups working with developers to create homes to meet their individual requirements.
The council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure Councillor Mark Ruffell said:
“We are supportive of people who want to build or design their own homes in the borough, particularly when this will enhance the neighbourhood.
“The new self-build register will keep the council informed of the level of demand for self-build and custom-build plots in the borough.”
