Waverley Borough Council in Surrey has said that, following an award-winning Church View development at Station Road in Godalming, work is now underway on the site of the former Wey Court House sheltered housing scheme in Godalming, located off Meadrow.
Portfolio Holder for Housing, Councillor Carole King, attended the start of work on a development of homes to be built in red brick, with plain clay roof tiles and timber effect weatherboarding.
The council says this will add “an interesting and attractive feature” to the local environment – as well as providing well designed and affordable accommodation for local residents.
The properties are being built on council land and will be owned and managed by the council – and the development will consist of 14 one-bedroom flats, eight two-bedroom flats, and two two-bedroom houses.
A total of 55 parking spaces will be provided, as well as outdoor amenity space.
Contractors Thakeham have a record in building high-quality, affordable housing, said the council – and aim to have the new homes completed in summer 2018.
The development is the latest in Waverley’s Affordable Homes Delivery Plan, to meet housing need in the borough.
