The South London Partnership (SLP) has appointed a new housing and employment tsar to represent five London boroughs in lobbying the government on transport and infrastructure, people and skills and business and enterprise.
Sarah Sturrock has been appointed director of SLP – a joint committee comprising the south London boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond and Sutton.
The committee was formed to promote and improve economic growth in south London, as well as encouraging investment.
Chair of the SLP and leader of Merton Council, Councillor Stephen Alambritis, said:
“We are pleased Sarah is joining us at this exciting time – and shares our ambition to develop our economic growth, investment and wellbeing in south London.
“She clearly has the experience and knowledge to support our vision and turn it into a reality.”
Ms Sturrock said:
“The South London Partnership boroughs have shown strong leadership in creating new arrangements through which to collaborate to shape economic growth – and unlock devolution from the government and mayor.
“I am excited to be joining them to turn their ambitions into real benefits for citizens across all five boroughs.”
The SLP website says that, despite a growing population and comparatively low unemployment, the five boroughs have “declining inner suburbs and isolated post-war estates”.
The SLP joint committee was set up in May 2015.
