We are thrilled to announce that our Cardiff office’s Housing Director, Heather Iqbal Rayner has been ranked as a ‘Leading Individual’ in the 2019 edition of The Legal 500 for her amazing contributions in the Real Estate: Social Housing, Wales category for the fourth year running.
The Legal 500 describes Heather as a “…highly motivated…” team leader who provides “…excellent service to individuals, many of whom are vulnerable...” She is also noted for her “…willingness to go the extra mile for her clients…” and alludes to her current work representing a defendant in a defence to possession proceeding brought by the local authority, arguing that they unlawfully trespassed on land, “…relying on human rights defences, the case is set for trial in 2018 and could bring important clarification defining the status of new age travellers - so far undefined in law - and confirm the status of trespassers.”
Heather joined Duncan Lewis’ Cardiff office as a solicitor in 2013 and was appointed partner-level director in 2015. She specialises in all areas of housing law including; possession, disrepair, anti-social behaviour, injunctions, homelessness, unlawful evictions and presenting Equality Act defences for vulnerable tenants.
In addition to her social housing work, Heather also handles social welfare tribunal, judicial review claimant and community care matters. She acts for a wide spectrum of clients throughout South Wales and has extensive experience acting for vulnerable individuals and also carries out remarkable pro bono work across Cardiff and the surrounding area.
Heather’s success doesn’t stop at The Legal 500, in 2017, she was commended in both the ‘Woman Lawyer of the Year Award’ at the Law Society Excellence Awards and ‘Best Contribution by an Individual’ Category at the LawWorks Pro Bono Awards.
On being ranked as a ‘Leading Individual’ Heather commented;
“I am delighted to be ranked again in the legal 500 as a ‘Leading Individual’. My team in Cardiff work extremely hard to ensure that vulnerable people are protected and represented and we work tirelessly to give our client’s a voice.
