Doncaster Council has announced that tenants have been given the keys to new council homes, marking the completion of 124 council-owned homes at ten sites across the borough.

The council says the new homes are a mix of one-, two-, three- and four- bedroom apartments, houses and bungalows – and form part of the council’s Affordable Housing Programme 2015-2018.

The new council homes have been built as the result of a partnership between Doncaster Council, St Leger Homes, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and the developer, Willmott Partnership Homes.

Deputy Mayor and Doncaster Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Equalities, Councillor Glyn Jones, said:

“I am delighted to see young families and older people settling into their new homes, as we hand over the keys for the latest council houses.

“We are committed to supporting the development of housing that people in Doncaster need and want.

“That means a wide range of quality homes – including affordable housing and council homes for people of all ages and backgrounds.

“I am proud that we are building quality new council homes that are much needed by families across the borough – we have seen 124 new council homes go up in the last two years and we have two further schemes underway, which will provide a further 114 council homes.”

Paul Tanney, Chief Executive of St Leger Homes of Doncaster said:

“I am delighted that this new build programme has provided affordable housing, helping to meet the needs of people in Doncaster.”

The new homes are funded by a HCA grant and funding allocated from Doncaster Council’s Capital Programme.

St Leger Homes will manage and maintain the homes, which will be let at an affordable rent to people who meet the local lettings policy criteria.

The council says it is already on site with two more schemes at Bristol Grove, Wheatley and Willow Grove, Thorne – these sites will deliver 79 and 35 new homes, respectively.
