Duncan Lewis Solicitors is proud to announce that our Public Law and Family teams were highly commended in both the Case of the Year and Innovation of the Year categories at last night's Modern Law Awards.
The Case of the Year commendation recognises the landmark judicial review challenge led by our Public Law team, which successfully held the government to account for its failure to increase legal aid fees since 1996.
This case resulted in a historic commitment from the Lord Chancellor to increase controlled work fees for immigration, asylum, housing, and debt by 10–30%, a crucial victory for access to justice.
This ruling will have a lasting impact on the legal aid sector, providing essential support to vulnerable individuals, including asylum seekers and survivors of domestic violence, ensuring they receive the legal representation they deserve.
Our Innovation of the Year commendation celebrates the ground-breaking work of Family Law Advice for the Neurodivergent Community (FLANC), a pioneering initiative that is transforming the family justice system for neurodivergent individuals.
Co-founded by Alia Lewis, FLANC is a cross-firm collaboration of expert family lawyers pushing for systemic reforms to make the justice system more inclusive and accessible for neurodivergent individuals facing legal challenges in family proceedings.
The Modern Law Awards, held last night at The Vermilion in Manchester, recognise outstanding achievements and innovation within the legal sector.
